Rating: Four shoggoths out of five

Nutshell: Two guys sit around on an old tomb all day, debating the existence of something so terrible that it is "unnamable."

Commentary: This tale is not particularly scary, but I got a peculiar kick out of it because the narrator/main character is obviously Lovecraft himself talking as himself. The writing has a much more personal character to it, which gives this short little tale more personality than many of his other stories.

Warning: there are points where our dear Lovecraft plunges abnormally deep into his own language. There are not many other pieces of writing that have a higher adjective/verb ratio than this one.
