The Lowdown: Lovecraft was born in Providence, RI, on August 20th, 1890, at 454 Angell Street (or 194 Angell Street, as it was known back then). After several deaths in the family, he and his mother were forced to move to 598 Angell Street in 1904. He moved to New York City during the early 1920's, but later returned to his beloved Providence in 1926 after his marriage failed. He settled at 10 Barnes Street upon his return, moving to 66 College Street in 1932, where he lived until he died of intestinal cancer in 1937. It is often noted that much of his best work was written while he lived in Providence.
