The Lowdown: Lovecraft lived in New York City from 1924 to 1926 during his brief marriage. He based several tales there that belied his general distaste for the city and it's diverse environment.
Anyone familiar with New York City, NY, knows that it is a conglomerate of 5 boroughs, 59 districts, and literally hundreds of neighborhoods. Lovecraft often mentions several neighborhoods of the city. Here is a handy reference map maintained by the NYC Department of City Planning that can help you find out where all of these neighborhoods are. Lovecraft lived at both 259 Parkside Avenue in the Prospect Park area, and at 169 Clinton Street in the Red Hook. Both neighborhoods are in the borough of Brooklyn. Referenced in: |
