Rating: Three shoggoths out of five

Nutshell: A seafarer, stranded asea in a rowboat, suddenly happens upon a strange, dark land that must have welled up from the sea.

Commentary: This is a very brief little tale that is definitely worth the few minutes it takes to read it, but it is not among the great stories of Lovecraft. It is interesting enough, but seems to be lacking in the horror that Lovecraft is obviously trying to convey.
