This movie was cool. Kate Beckinsale is the hottest thing walking as the Death Dealer Selene. She is a force to be reckoned with as one of the top werewolf killers working for the vamp side. The war has raged for hundreds of years. The only problem is that only a few people remember why the war is raging at all, and they aren’t talking.

So when the Lycans start hunting a specific human for reasons unknown, Selene wants to know why. But it seems that the vampire in charge doesn’t want her following the lead. Strange that. She believes something is up, and for guidance she wakes up one of the elder vampires from his snooze a bit early. His name is Viktor, and he is, as Sam Jackson would say, a Bad Motherfucker.

So Selene follows the human Michael, trying to figure out what interest the Lycans have in him. In the middle of it all, Michael gets bitten. But not by a vampire. So as the moon draws near, Selene begins having feelings for him. So spirals out a Romeo and Juliet type story. And as always, there's hell to pay at the end.

I liked this movie quite a bit. There were minor problems with it, like the fact that the werewolves seemed all supernatural and crazy, but dropped like flies when the vamps started shooting. The vamps didn't seem to have any powers of note except for Viktor. The werewolves also seemed to have been trained in the Imperial Storm Trooper Academy School of Marksmanship. And speaking of Star Wars, did it seem that the lovey dovey feelings came on a bit fast? I mean, Kate’s portrayal of the character was a bit inscrutable over all, but still...

Anyway, there was some great effects in this movie, lifting from the Matrix school of fighting. If you get a chance to see this in theaters, do so. For a Directorial Debut, it’s damn good. Pacing is a little off, but I bet he learned a hell of a lot so just wait till the sequel.
